  • Thanks. I have downloaded that, got 19 books on there which I have downloaded individually. I have then gone into the Calibre site, clicked on 'add books', gone into 'add books from a single directory' and opened each one from the kindle from PC.

Most of the books are now showing on Calibre library, but not sure how to get them onto my Kobo app.

    What should I do now?
  • Aaah that means you wish to change their format, if they are DRM protected then you need to use google to find the answer, If you have the right to read them on a Kindle (or the Kindle app) then that is all you are allowed to read them on, of course there are ways around this but they could be "illegal" and users of the forum would not be allowed to help you, but google will point you in the right direction if you wish to go down that route, my uncle Alf would not countenance that though

    As posted previously.

Download the DeDRM 'tools_v6.05.zip' from here:

    http://www1.datafilehost.com/d/e290f19f

Make sure you un-tick the box that says

"Use our download manager and get recommended downloads"

Then click on the smaller grey 'Download' box (not the large black 'Download Now' box) and you will get the tools with no virus warnings (the download manager that this host site is trying to include with the tools generates a virus warning).

'Unzip' the file - lots of freeware 'un-zippers' around like 7-zip if you haven't got one i.e:

    http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Then it's the 'DeDRM_calibre_plugin' folder that you need - just follow the instructions in the 'DeDRM_plugin_ReadMe' document; in particular when loading the plugin into Calibre:

"Do NOT select "Get plugins to enhance calibre" as this is reserved for 'official' calibre plugins, instead select "Change calibre behavior" to go to Calibre's Preferences page. Under "Advanced" click on the Plugins button. Use the "Load plugin from file" button to select the plugin's zip file (DeDRM_plugin.zip) and click the "Add" button. Click "Yes" in the the "Are you sure?" dialog. Click OK in the "Success" dialog".

You can then convert the books to epub format for Kobo.

    Complicated - but it works.....

You don't own a licence to read the Kindle formatted books in e-pub format of course, so you are breaching copyright.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
