Santander 123 ID checks

My wife applied online in early hours of 30 Nov for a 123 current account. Today she has an email from them saying some some details provided don't match what they hold for her as an existing customer.
Thing is, she's not an existing customer and indicated that on the application. She did have some sort of savings account but that was closed in about 2007. Can't find passbook anyway.
They also attached a 'Change of Details' form asking for current name/address etc. details, existing account details, and new name/address etc. details. The existing and new details are going to be the same! So she needs to send that, with ID photocopies and application reference (or copy of email) to them to a Freepost Account Opening - BANK MERGE address.
Oh dear I think I can smell it going wrong already!

I had exactly the same thing happen (opened account at beginning of November). Turned out it was due to the fact I opened an ISA with them back in 2009 which I never used and immediately closed. Due to this they had old address details on file and I had to fill in the change of details form and send it with 2 copies of info from the ID list they send in the email. All of it went absolutely fine - took about 10 days for me to get the log in info for on line banking through (even though I had exactly the same reservations you do about it all going horribly wrong!)0
