Advice on a wireless router

Options
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good wireless router, I have 3 brands coming up in my research; Belkin, Linksys and Netgear but each one seems as ever to have loads of supporters and loads of disgruntled customers. Also there does seem to be a biggish gap in prices between the brands for what looks like the same spec.

Bascially I need one that is mac + PC compatible and very very easy to set up as I'm new to mac and can't play around too much with the pc as it's a work one. I'm about to go on Talk Talk broadband having had enough of BT's high prices (though there seems to be a lot of issues with TT on other web sites)

any suggestions from people with a similar set up

Is it just a router you need or is it a modem / router combo?
(ie will your broadband be through a telephone line)
    £2 savers club = £83.50
  • Sorry should have given more info. need modem as only have a USB one that is about to go in the bin.
  • I have a Belkin Router/Modem.

Works fine and when I have had problems (normally self inflicted) the Belkin helpdesk have been great

IMHO, the draktek vigor 2600G is a very reliable and stable router. only problem is cost! but if you can afford it, get it.

Don't have a wireless set-up myself, so I can't really recommend any specific hardware, but reviews at adslguide.org.uk may give you a few ideas.
  • I have the standard Belkin Wireless modem/router.
The first one I got had to be sent back as almost the entire batch of that particular model were faulty - not like Belkin at all.
The new one works absolutely fine so far.
I found their tech support to be fine when they were following their scripts but when a problem came up that they couldnt look up they were useless.
Also had 2 Belkin USB dongles - one of which broke after a month. The replacement was the 2nd version which was incompatible with my PC as I had installed the version 1 dongle - Belkin don't know why it is incompatible and have stopped answering my e-mails so I ont be buing anything from them again - so I guess you could put me in the 'disgruntled' box.

They are renowned for making quality software but seem to have made a few slip ups of late.
