Hi,
We recently moved into a new property and after over two months of trying to get a customer number from BG we finally received a call from their CS today to confirm our account has been set up. We're on their standard tariff, being a new customer and have just paid our first bill, £32.59, which is apparently for Electricity only for our first one months usage. We'd prefer to pay per one-month bill as opposed to direct debit but believe there are discounts to be had for paying on time and via online payments, hope that's correct.
We're already looking to switch to either a cheaper tariff BG tariff or an alternative supplier but are unsure what steps to take. Obviously there are the big comparison sites but since we've not had a proper gas & electricity bill to compare with yet, we wondered if anyone can advise whether we should wait until we do have a proper dual fuel bill or just go ahead?
Thanks in advance.

I think standard is the cheap BG tarrif.
Yes I would pay by dd if you can as they do give discounts.
No point waiting for a bill as winter will be over by the time the switch has completed.
Npower price fix April 2015 looks good to me but switching and customer service not great.0 -
Standard is the most expensive variable tariff.
Use estimated annual kWh figures on any comp site, since a first quarter bill will tell you nothing about annual usage.
Rule out DD payment and you'll screen out most (though not all) of the cheapest online discount tariffs. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
