tried to fix it for him yesterday..... i downloaded malware bytes for him but had to use do..search to download it performed quick scan found the offending adware got to delete part .... not responding.... compounding the problem is that comp is 6 years old and only has 0.5 gig of ram ..... i will try again later maybe with ad aware......question is final stage problem caused by do.. search or slow comp......as an extreme solution will reloading from factory settings cure it? thank you

version of windows would be useful, perhaps trying to run everything youve done in safe mode, should stop all the background apps running... which im guessing there will be a lot on a 6year old pc.0

If he can afford to wait there is an event coming up on 25th which will result in a number of PC / laptops being upgraded.
It's worth keeping an eye on freecycle / freebay. We have a "green IT" section at the local tip shop who offer reasonably priced machines. Worth having a look in your own area.0 -
i looked in a local charity shop something like generator or similar selling a same spec machine for 120 pound for a machine thats obselete before you left the shop..... good idea free cycle or the local tip0
