I decided against the usual Advent calendars this year and bought a wire, spiral card display thing from Ikea and a pack of 24 little paper bags with handles. My grandchildren helped me assemble it. The numbers are all over the place but it just means they will have to actively look for them which will help with their number recognition. LOL, once a teacher.......always a teacher.
They are not here every day so I will put little things like chocolate coins in for when they are here. Also, I have a small nativity set which I will place individually into some of the bags with the baby Jesus on No. 24 so that the whole set is assembled for Christmas. Hopefully it will help them realise that Christmas (and Advent) is not all about chocolate.0 -
I decided that we eat too much chocolate in the run up to Christmas (and after it) so instead of chocolate I decided to do activities. Today's activity is to go out and buy a Christmas tree and decorate it. Think tomorrow might be to roast chestnuts as got a bag reduced in Sainsbugs on Friday. Hadn't told OH this was my plan so I think he was a bit disappointed there were no chocolate in today's drawer:D!
Will decide the day before what I will put in for the next day as time, work, weather etc will dictate what we can do.

We had
DS (lego) - minifigure with a cup
mine (lindt) - small reindeer
cat (dreamies) - window full of treats (I was only expecting 2 or 3)
I think the cat got the best deal!

Every year I tell myself I'm getting an Advent Calendar, but never do. I never thought beyond the ones with chocolate in, but seen the threads about the Boots and Body Shop ones too late. This one sounds fab too as I love candles, but I guess I'm too late and will hope you update each day with what you had from your Yankee advent bladerunner:)
Is this it ? Yankee Advent Calendar
It looks lovely and I'm wondering about ordering it anyway!

Happy first of December everyone!
Our family advent calendar is a little tree. It stands on a music box that plays Merry Christmas. It has 24 tiny tree orniments in the drawers.
We put 1 decoration from a drawer each day and on the 24th day the star goes on the top of the tree. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Definitely will Cath, that's the one I got. I'd definitely order one and just open a couple together when it arrives :j I bought one for my Mum too to make a change from chocolate this year.2014 20p savers club #2 I've given up trying to keep track of how much that pig eats!
