Advice re Parcelforce

Wondered if anyone out there can adivise? I bought a piece of art from Germany and was advised by the seller that it would be delivered by Parcelforce. They advised me to check the item when it was delivered and to refuse to accept it if was damaged thus making it simpler to sort out replacement. The parcel arrived today and when I told the delivery guy I wanted to check it prior to signing for it he said " this is not possible as he could not take it back if opened" Luckily for me the painting was intact but I just wondered if this is common practice for Parcelforce? You now sign for parcels on a elecronic gadget therefore there is no where you can sign and say " accepted without checking item"
Just wondered about future items.
I USED TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE!

Rich people tell you that money doesn't bring you happiness just so the poor people don't feel jealous.
