Can I find out what my employer pays others

Many years ago, a large chemical company in my home town had a policy that if you were caught asking a fellow worker what his take home pay is or a look at his pay slip was subject to disciplinary proceedings (usually a verbal warning). This was to try and prevent animosity in the workplace.
Obviously the powers that be couldn't stop salary discussions outside works time.0 -
If someone asked me my salary outright I wouldn't tell them and I would be extremely careful about what I said around them.
I've found it far more effective to keep quiet and just let it come out in conversations .........2014 Target;

Most companies I have worked for have had a stipulation in the contract which says you must not divulge your salary.0

If its a public sector employer you can find out the distribution of pay rates by grader/sex/race etc (either via an FoI request or because its already published), but you wont get an individuals pay rate0

Oh well - takes all types, eh?anamenottaken wrote: »None of the companies I have worked for (over the last 48 years) have had that.0 -
Of course it would depend on what line of work you're in, but if they paid people (at the same level) the same rate, there'd be no need for the secrecy, imo.0

It's explicitly stated in my conttract that it will be gross misconduct. People doing the "same" job can be on vastly diffferent pay levels, and the company does not want war breaking out if people compare numbers.0 -
Me neither. in fact, I've never even heard of anything like that.anamenottaken wrote: »None of the companies I have worked for (over the last 48 years) have had that.0
