Benefit entitlement for widow?

Just re-read the thread and noticed that husband died a year ago. A year???
Suggestion that she gets financial help/support from her children? Not a good idea. I've been hearing of a woman recently whom I know, who 'doesn't want help from anyone else - only the family'. Trouble is, the family have their own lives to lead, own children to bring up. It's not easy for anyone in the modern world. Much better to stand on own two feet and that way, you're not beholden to anyone.
A woman in her late 50s is still a spring chicken!! She may marry again, who knows. There are a lot of possibilities and opportunities out there.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

When she does reach SPA, will her entitlement also be based on NI contributions of her late husband, as well as her own?
