B&Q Late Kitchen Delivery

 I was wondering if any of you might have some advice:
My mother is law is getting messed around my B&Q. She ordered a kitchen unit from them that was meant to be delivered earlier this month. They ended up not being able to deliver it on the original date as stated.
The date was moved to last week, which again, came and went - no delivery.
The thing is, she is currently living in rented accomodation and doesn't want to move into her new flat until a kitchen is installed (understandably). B&Q have been unreliable in maintaining a proper delivery date. Her moving in date keeps getting pushed back due to the kitchen. She continues to have to pay rent because B&Q aren't living up to their delivery dates, which is costing her money!
Is there anyway to recoup the cost of rent from B&Q? Has anyone had any experience in this situation and can offer advice on how to get B&Q to live firmly by a delivery date they set? Help appreciated!

I had problems with B&Q last year, postponing delivery, delivering wrong size units etc. There response is that they make "every reasonable effort" to deliver and will inform you if they can't. If your MIL hasn't had a reasonable explanation for the latest non-delivery, I suggest she phone the branch/ depot and kicks up a fuss. I believe she should stress that "time is of the essence" as she is suffering financial loss.
Also WHEN the units arrive, check each one all over for dents and torn covering - we found the units had scratches and dings underneath these! I made sure I noted all damaged packaging on the company's copy of the delivery note. Then we had to go through the whole palaver again waiting for replacement items!
Generally we found the depot staff better to deal with, the store staff were undertrained and overworked."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
I don't have any experience of dealing with B&Q in your situation, but the above advice is good - kick up a fuss and stress the financial loss element - talk to a manager - they always have more discretion. Good luck.
This is not remotely helpful, but might bring some light relief....:j
An email I received shortly after Ellen MacArthur's yacht trip....
Copy of an e-mail received by B&Q customer services:
Dear Sir/Madam
My congratulations to you on getting a yacht to leave the UK on 28th
November 2004, sail 27,354 miles around the world and arrive back 72
days later.
Could you please let me know when the kitchen I ordered 96 days ago will
be arriving from your warehouse 13 miles away?
Yours Sincerley

From Trading Standards Website:
"I ordered goods for delivery by a specific date. The goods have not yet been delivered but the trader will not accept cancellation of the order. Am I right in thinking that I am entitled to cancel?"
Yes! Provided that the delivery date was specified and made a term of the contract, you are entitled to cancel the contract, without any financial penalty, once the date has passed.
I don't know about getting money for rent though, but you should definitely get in contact with Trading Standards about it.It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
Helpful to all if you could name and shame the store where the kitchen was ordered.
Had problems with B&Q last year due to oversize unit being delivered (could not go through front door) and after the visit to our house of the "Kitchen designer specialist" :rotfl: .....units delivered with missing bits and pieces. Each of these omissions representing breach of contracts.
The whole delay cost us around £300 and we are still negotiating with the store Manager "B&Q Scotswood Road" Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
We have sent copy of our correspondance to their head office and are waiting for a reply.
Keep at it, don't be afraid and take them to the small claims court if need be (cost to you £50 which you will get back if the judge sites with you..)
Good luck ! :T0
