OS Daily Saturday 30th November 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

...NJL Hope you feel less tired soon...

I went to bed and to sleep at about 1pm yesterday and apart from ten minutes to go to the loo and feed the boys and two minutes later to take my meds I slept until 5am this morning. It was heavenly. I'm feeling a bit brain dead at the moment (think I was late with the meds) but it will pass. And if it doesn't I shall climb back under the duvet when I've done what I must today.

...Another who's been absent for a bit,we had a traumatic few days as our new baby Grandson had to go into hospital with an infection and was put on the childrens ward at 3 days old so its been a bit stressful.DS2 and DiL2b stayed with him,and were sharing a single bed so they've not had a lot of rest and now they think she's got mastitis. She's shivering away in bed,but the nurses told her to contact her own midwife as they cant treat her and no doctors available  Anyway she's rung the Maternity ward where she was with Freddie and they've told her to pop in there, same hospital. The good thing is the infection level has gone down in baby now and he might be going home later....

This sounds like a nightmare for you all RosyRed but here's hoping everyone will be home and happier soon.

The boys and I are fed and I'm starting to think about the day ahead. I need to look after my plants, freeze the stock I made yesterday, bake bread and make the Bulgar Wheat Pilaf I have planned. And then I think I will be finished and can put my feet up and enjoy the weekend.

Dinner tonight will be the Pizza and Dessert treat I didn't have last night because I was sleeping.

Thoughts to all those involved in the helicopter crash.

  • Morning all
Cold & frosty here this morning, DGD stayed last night and wanted to stay & make cakes this morning but I've had to refuse, I shall take her home when I take hubby to work as I have DGFS visiting this morning and it's his first solo visit, he is 7 but has only been with DD for about a year. I've promised DGD that she can stay next Friday & we will make cakes on the Saturday morning.
Hugs to Rosy & Molly & anyone else in need.
LW enjoy your time with Amber.
I bought a bag of tinned food y'day for a colleague who's in the Salvation Army, they are packing up their Christmas hampers next week. I also need to buy a toy for their toy appeal & drop off my soldiers care package. I've almost finished my Christmas shopping just one gift & a couple of vouchers to get.
I need to tidy the living room today, vacuum downstairs & do some washing, I also need to rest, work has been stressful this week what with muppets breaking the machines & continuous drilling & banging plus not being able to even get to my computer for 2 days & having to hot desk.
    Time to make a cuppa.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Good morning everyone :)

Molly - I hope your son came home

RosyRed - I hope both grandson and DIL are recovering and managed to get home

nmlc - I hope your son is recovering

JulieGeorgiana - Sorry to hear about BF issues and hope Daisy has settled down now and starts to thrive

Tru - I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Timmy. DD and DGS have a very sick Rosie rabbit at the moment and I am dreading the heartbreak of another lost pet. DGS was absolutely inconsolable when she lost Petal the hamster and then again when our beloved Buddy died :(

LW - Sidny was beautiful, he looks like a right little character! Amber sounds like a lovely dog, when we collected our rescue ferrets, we were told they ate mince but they won't touch it, either cooked or raw. Their favourite is chopped up chicken or egg yolks mixed with goat's milk.

Julie - fingers crossed for an earlier appointment, I was admitted and had surgery on 21st December one year, DH and DD made Christmas dinner while I sat in the kitchen doorway and supervised.

Apologies for any news I have missed, brain is a bit addled. Still full of cold here and fed up with it, need to get out and blow some cobwebs away.

New car needs to be MOTed today, this should have happened before we collected it but the garage were waiting for a new rearview mirror, which is currently stuck on with gaffer tape. Anyway it gives us a few weeks longer on the MOT so we are fine with it.

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Thinking of those affected by the helicopter crash in Glasgow last night x

Still dark, but not foggy, quite windy, hopefully it will dry up a bit underfoot has been "damp" for days!

DH not at work today - so was going to leave him to sleep, but can now hear him moving about - I should think he'll be down for a cuppa in a mo! Boys still fast asleep in their pits.

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips and peas for the boys. I had mushroom omlette and salad. DH was late home so didn't fancy a big meal, so I did him an omlette and chips. Tonight we will be having roast chicken pieces, and pasta with sauce, dough balls and garlic bread. I bought a leg of lamb whilst shopping yesterday, so that will be Sunday lunch, it's a large one, so will then use the LO meat to make a meal in the week, will make a pot of gravy and just re-heat the meat in that.

Was reasonably productive yesterday, got to the bank, did the food shopping, then came home and did the washing, drying and then did the large pile of ironing. Was just enough when DS2 got home to make up another load and he asked if I'd wash his school blazer, so that all went in and his blazer is now drying on a hanger. Changed beds.

Rang and spoke to the guy at the garage we use, and we're going today to take the car so he can measure up and give us a quote for fitting a cat protection plate. I did do a bit of research yesterday but everything is geared towards commercial vehicles so rang the garage as they are a 4x4 specialist, and he knew exactly what was needed and will do the job for us - really pleased that I've been able to source this as then we won't have to worry quite so much when it's left anywhere - not just at home. FIL took me to the garage to collect the car late yesterday morning.

Mum and dad are coming over today, dad is going to check over DS1's motorbike to check what damage he may/may not have done, hoping it's not too much as don't want to claim off his insurance as it'll make it sky rocket next year. DS1 did say his shoulder was starting to feel a bit stiff yesterday afternoon but nothing too bad.

Have a few other jobs to do today, but will just potter about, glad that it's the end of the week, not sorry to see the back of this past week!

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

My new foundation (only used ONCE) has mysteriously disappeared from my drawer. I bought it because the last one also went missing. I use it whenever I leave the house, if I don't people think they've seen a real ghost when they look at me :D Am seriously considering putting a lock on the bedroom door. Miss tru, you are in trouble.

We went out last night, it was quite nice, I'm glad I went. Mr tru's workmate wants us to go out later but I really don't to. I made up a rubbish excuse and said we could go straight from work, they finish at 4.30pm so we'll be at the pub by 5pm and home by 6.30pm :D He only wants to show off his latest girlfriend anyway :D

I think I've been too ambitious with that wreath, it's just not working. So I've starting making a small one, hopefully it'll look half-decent :D

I'm on my own for most of the day, so I'll do a quick tidy up and hoover once the Virgin man has been (sometime between 8-12). I have to catch up with the accounts then I'll go through my Christmas scribblings to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. I'll do some crochet this afternoon. We bought World War Z on DVD for £3, we'll probably watch that tonight.

First though, I'm going to clean out Timmy's cage. Yesterday was odd, every time I walked past it I expected him to pop his head out of his house to see if his veg was on the way  I should have said – he's a guinea pig. I've mentioned him a few times before and just assume everyone knows who I'm talking about when I say his name :o

  • Good Morning All

    Its the weekend yay :j

Tru - that used to happen to me all the time until DD went to Uni :rotfl:

Up early here as have a busy day today, just about to jump in the shower then spend an hour of so sorting out my bedroom - its still scary in there

Drop DS off to footie training then off to London with DD & OH, she had to come home from Uni for an appointment so we are mooching around Covent Garden, having lunch in Chinatown then dropping her off at the train station.

This evening I am off out to a work reunion, am looking forward to it but I am driving as its 45 mins away.

So rush rush today, have to be truthful I am looking forward to a weekend soon doing nothing.

No dinner to cook today :T but need to get lamb out of the freezer for tomorrow.

    Have a good one all.x

    Morning All

Cold and clear here so may strip DDs bed and see if it will get an airing outside. Other washing up to date, DW went on last night and emptied this morning. Hoovered round last night too.

Had a mad dash to Solicitors yesterday, SEPA wanted me to pinpoint the exact location of the septic tank, looks like they are near to making a decision and hopefully issuing a certificate. All things being put in place we may be off on Thursday ( shhhhh though, don't want to jinx it).

Had a fab time at the shopping do on Thursday, lots of glasses of bubbly and nibbles, meal was good too. Enjoyed catching up with friends and got another 2 pressies, both with 20% off.

Thinking of those involved in the Glasgow helicopter crash, always makes it worse when it's nearby and you know where it is.

Hugs to those who are poorly, Molly, we are all here for you. Rosy hope the baby recovers quickly and tru, sorry to hear about Timmy.

    Take care. XX

YAY! It's Saturday. I made it through the week :)

    Jobs for today are:

Go to B&Q to buy a fluorescent tube for one of my under kitchen cabinet light fittings. Exciting yeh? I bet you want to live my life lol

Pop into church to rearrange the seating for services tomorrow.

At home - put up the Christmas tree and create my winter wonderland nativity scene. I have done it every year since the MATHLETTS were babies. It is a huge nativity with everything from Baby Jesus (most important, obviously!), snow men, a host of angels which I have rescued from car boots or had given to me as gifts over the years, some snow men, a Nordic skier, penguins, a rocking Santa, some weebles and a whole lot of other stuff lining up to adore the new-born King.

Mealwise: The breadmaker is a-chug-in as I type. Lunch will be eat what you can find. For dinner, I am making cheese and tomato risotto and sweet dumplings with syrup sauce. Real winter stodge food.

    Have a good day :)

Good morning all,its a nice but cold day here in the NW.
Thanks for the good wishes for baby DGS and DIL2b.The good news is that Freddie has been discharged :jbut Dil2b was admitted herself when she went back to the post natal ward and was on a drip & having ABs.I'm not sure what happened last night as it was getting late, but they wanted DS to take baby home as they said his mummy needed to rest and was poorly so couldnt look after him.As you can imagine she was not happy so more discussion was taking place.I dont want to ring too early in case they are sleeping.

So not sure what todays plans are,I do know we are picking DGD up this afternoon and she is staying over .The house is immaculate from the viewing yesterday but certainly wont be after she's been here half an hour :D

We can have yesterdays stew tonight, but need to pick a few fresh bits up and I could do with taking a library book back that I keep renewing-'the perfect puppy:D
I hadnt heard about the helicopter till I read the thread, looks awful, thoughts with those affected.
Camelot -really hope you can move soon.
Julie hope you hear about your op
    Have a good Saturday xx
