Nissan Almera Timing Chain

I have just paid £674 to have the timing chain replaced on my Y reg 2001 Nissan Almera that has done 48000 miles. Having read various forums, it seems that Nissan are aware that there is a problem and are putting it down to poor servicing. I have a full service history for this car and am going to contact Nissan UK to see what they have to say. I'm not holding out much hope but wondered if anybody has been successful in receiving a goodwill gesture in the form of compensation from Nissan for this type of complaint. Any advice on tackling this grievance would be much appreciated.
