still being chased after settlement

  • I would class your letter two months ago to Halifax as a complaint.

As they have failed to respond, you can now refer to FOS.

It may take a while to get it resolved via that route, but sounds like it will be quicker than Halifax.

Write to Halifax, stating that as they have ignored your complaint you are referring to the FOS. Include a copy of your previous letter. Then call up the FOS or fill out their firm you can get online. If you call them, they will likely write to Halifax sooner and might get a response.

    Good luck

Hi there, thanks for replying. I have no experience with FOS, is it a fairly simple process? is it quick? Could anyone tell me how FOS would work it out roughly? Or should I send one more letter to Halifax refering to the first letter and giving them certain time to respond this time and then threatening to go FOS if not? What happens if someone goes to FOS- is it bad for Halifax ? Or are they dont care about that? Thanks again
  • FOS is easy and free, but can take them a while. So get this sorted as soon as you can. Free for you, £500+ for them. Check out the link:

You can try Halifax at the same time. Them withdraw the FOS referral if they sort it.

Hi all! Thanks to all of you who replied! Even moral police... :)
Yeah, that is exactly how it went: they put an extra condition on the deal after I've accepted their offer and paid.

If that is the case then they don't have a leg to stand on.

Take it to the FOS if you like, but look after the settlement letters.

In the end the only option Halifax or a collector would have would be to take it to court, and with those letters as proof you would have a bullet proof defence.
