Total confusion, equifax & noddle

I applied for a 'bad credit' credit card a couple of weeks ago. I have no credit or defaults and an excellent score on experian. I filled out the eligibility test and it came out as 80% likely to be accepted. I wasn't accepted. A letter said they use equifax, but I couldn't understand why I had been refused.
Tried to get a £2 report, kept coming up with error messages even though all fields were filled out correctly. In the end I gave up. Then went shopping, my bank card was declined. Called my bank, apparently because I entered my card details 3 times my card was
stopped in case of fraud! They said the first payment went through, but I never got my report or even an email. All I got was red error messages.
I'm afraid to try again in case the same thing happens, it is VERY embarrassing to be refused your shopping at the supermarket!
So off I toddle to Noddle, and they tell me they are unable to give me my report because they can't verify I am who I say I am!!
I am on the electoral roll, have lived here for 2 years, my previous address for 11 years, have no credit whatsoever, pay my bills the day they arrive in my inbox. I have an overdraft facility but never
go into it. I am looking to be moving house in a few months and will be renting privately so need my report to be good. That is why I ordered the card, experian advised it to improve my score. I don't even WANT the dratted thing! I posted here then but can't find it, it's away in the nether regions.
Need I be worried? Something is not right but I don't know what

Noddle may just have a problem identfying you because you have no credit facilities.
I would get copies of your credit reports from each of the 3 agencies to double check them to be on the safe side
(you can order them by post for £2 each if you can't get through the online systems - although if you have paid for the equifax one online then maybe contact them to chase that up rather than paying again).
A new credit card would have no impact on a rental credit check. A credit check for rental purposes can only see the public information on your credit file, not any credit accounts/missed payments/defaults or searches etc.

Thanks Tixy, I tried to get equifax contact details and need to log in to get them, which means I have to sign up........I am thoroughly sick of attempts to be railroaded to sign up for one thing or another with the promise that it is easy to cancel. It is NEVER that easy to cancel because they don't want you to cancel. Why can't they just offer something for free then supply what they offer?
And WHY should anyone have to take out credit just to look more attractive to other lenders which is what experian advised ( when I had to call and cancel after reading my FREE report )? I have my utilities I pay on time, my phone and BB is monthly dd. I pay my rent on time by dd. My mobile is PAYG and always has been. But for some reason that isn't good enough even for a credit card for BAD CREDIT!!! Barclaycard said to contact equifax, and that seems almost impossible without signing up for
what exactly?
Grrrrr, can you tell I'm just a teeny bit peed off?0 -
And if a potential landlord uses Noddle they won't even find me!
I am getting very concerned as I only have a few months left here.0 -
Were you declined a credit card for the same reasons noodle couldn't register you?
There may be issues on your file with exact names, middle names, address slightly out etc.
Worth contacting all 3 to check all details are exactly correct before applying for anymore credit.Save 12k in 2014 member 056

Ignore Experian's advice - is does not relate to a rental credit check.
All a potential landlord (or the firm he will use) will see is-
Whether you on the electoral roll
Whether you have any CCJs in the last 6 years
Whether you have entered into any insolvency in the last 6 years (i.e. been declared bankrupt, entered in to an IVA or a DRO).
The rest of it they cannot see and is irrelevant for the purposes of a rental credit check. If none of those apply then you have no reason to worry about a rental credit check.
Obviously you still need to convince them of your ability to pay the rent etc, but that is not from a credit check but from other information you would provide to them.
Not related to the rental situation, but I would still get copies of your credit files from the 3 agencies just to check to see everything on them is correct (as said before you can get paper copies for £2 which may be the easiest). Sounds like you have already looked at experians, but its worth getting them from equifax and callcredit.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I don't have a cheque book! I declined because more interest is paid if no cheque book is used. As I never use one and more and more places don't accept cheques didn't think it would be a problem! Could get postal orders from the post office. There was no problem with experian, done and dusted
in minutes, just took some effort to cancel.
Thanks for the info, it is very much appreciated .
Jason, How can I check if they are correct? Sorry, my brain is fast turning to mush! You are probably right, maybe I've missed something out or put in a wrong digit in the phone number, would that affect it?0 -
Just need to try get all 3 and check all the details are correct. I had an issue with my address a while back. Sometimes it was flat d number 32 sometimes it 32d etc. this caused me real problems which is crazy.Save 12k in 2014 member 056
