Righty, sorry to add another what laptop to the thread but I am in need of some help as the kid in PCworld couldn't even have the decency to stifle his yawns let alone help me...
I'm newly self employed and the ipad just isn't cutting it anymore. I've seen a few I liked and wonder if my choice is as good as it could be... Not a huge budget available (£500ish) quite liked the touch screen laptops and looking at no smaller than a 14"
As quick as possible, mainly due to impatience
Saw the sony vaio fit 15 and the Lenovo ideapad which rotates 360...both in pcworld and really no further along than that!
I'm not a massive techie, more a faddy one, love the whole apple malarkey but way out of my budget and quite like a swish looking machine....I apologise now for my ridiculous requirements in a laptop...
But please, I really am grateful for any help :j

Difficult to give any advice unless you say what you actually need to do with your laptop? All we know so far is that you want a 15" touch screen laptop. What programs or functions do you need to run on it? If you just need something for email, web browsing and running office programs, then absolutely any modern laptop can do that with ease, from about £350 upwards (though no touch screens at that price).
But the first rule is, 'don't buy from PCW'. By all means use them to browse, but don't expect to get any sensible pre-sales advice, or after-sales service. Go to a proper retailer. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks macman, sorry for my vagueness, as I mentioned its early days of being self employed so hard to say what I will be needing it to do for me in the near future but currently can't run my website effectively as it's best through chrome, I will be using photos so being able to edit and upload easily is good, then general office use, invoices, taxes and the like.
Would like to use the machine in my spare time too so the DVD drive on the sony may be a good shout...Internet browsing, emails as you say.
I'm not much help am I!0 -
By proper retailer...anyone you can recommend?0

If its for business I would buy a second hand T430 off ebay or ex business stock.
Its not pretty but its dead solid and will last.
Otherwise id say something like this

I don't see buying from PCW has any problem. You just ignore what so ever they say on pre-sales, or don't expect any after-sales service. If your laptop has any hardware problem. you could contact manufacture directly to arrange repair.
Basicly, research and make up your mind before you go.0 -
Is the laptop for work? And is touchscreen necessary? I suggest you leave your touchscreen to ipad.
If touchscreen not necessary and laptop for business. I suggest you have a look on dell factory outlet and look for business laptop.
They come with 3 year warranty next business day, which I think reliability is more important if it is business related.0
