Tablet I received 'free' with phone contract is faulty

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place, but here goes:
I bought a mobile phone contract from the Carphone Warehouse in July this year. The deal was that I got a free Samsung Tablet with the mobile contract (this was the reason I chose Carphone Warehouse and not other providers)
Unfortunately the Tablet now seems to have a problem and it won't charge up.
Can anyone help with what my rights are with this?, should I be able to take it back to the store and ask for a replacement or for them to repair it? Because it was 'free' I'm not too sure.
If this was from any other store I would just go straight in and ask, but with the Carphone Warehouse, I have already had problems when I took the contract out, so I would rather know what my rights are before I go in and they try and fob me off

Your statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act are with CPW.
Try to think of it as a purchase of a phone and tablet for the price of just a phone, and it may be easier to understand than a 'free' tablet.
Here is a short extract from MSE's Consumer Rights guide:DO I HAVE RIGHTS IF A FREEBIE WAS FAULTY?
This is a tricky area in consumer rights. Technically when something's free there's no contract with the supplier, so you're not entitled to get a faulty item fixed.
Yet if it was a free gift as part of a purchase, eg, if you sign up for a mobile contact and get a laptop with it – that's different. Here, you've exactly the same Sad Fart rights as if you'd paid for it. Most sellers are aware of this, but, if they try to fob you off, stand your ground.0 -
Thanks for the link. I shall have a read and pluck up the courage to go to Carphone Warehouse tomorrow!

IF CPW are intransigent, Samsung have a decent warranty repair service.0

Just use the Samsung warranty, thats all they will do anyway. Samsung are good with warranty repairs.0
