Getting an electric cooker fitted.

I have had no cooker for a month in my new home due to not having the money to buy one. I am now having to use my gas/electric bill money to get one as my family cant go on eating rubbish from the microwave and its Christmas in a few weeks too.
Now my next problem is i have found someone with a second hand electric cooker for £25 which is FAB but apparently it needs wiring in by an electrician(i dont know anything about these things!) and i am wondering how much more this will set me back as all my money bar £100 is tied up in bills and my Christmas is destined to be terrible.
Does anyone know if Housing Associations will get it fitted for me as a safety issue and the fact i cannot afford for it to be done??

Depends on the make and model, do you have a dedicated cooker circuit already installed?
No, it's not an issue for your HA.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

No, it's not an issue for your HA.
There is a plain plastic cover over what i assume would be the electrics for wiring it in on the wall in the cooker space plus a red cooker switch and plug socket above the work surface next to the cooker space.
If its a matter of H&S and the fact i am very quickly running out of money for microwave food on my single income for a family of 3 surely the HA could help with the cost in some way? I really dont want to have my husband try and wire it and the house goes on fire because we are broke and hungry..................:o:(0 -
i charge 45 to fit a cooker including all certificate and invoice
someone may do cheaper but if you rent and something happens it may be a problem
if you own if is fairly simple but you need 6mm 3 core cable0 -
Whats more important ? christmas , or your lives?
It is a simple DIY task for some , but if you dont know anyone or cant do it yourself , your pretty stuck if you wont use any xmas money
If it helps , local little applicance call out guys here in Luton would charge you about £40Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

I haven't got any money for Christmas i just want my cooker fitted so i can cook us a dinner for Christmas day or shall i not bother with that either??? I guess not being able to prepare a decent hot meal is ok with some.................
My husband can change light switch sockets and ceiling light fittings perfectly well and safely but is by no means an expert with cookers so i dont think it would be that safe for him to do.
I need to get some quotes but i have also asked my HA for help with this too.0 -
If your husband can wire lights etc , he should be fine with wiring a cooker
Wether the HA should pay for you to be able to cook meals , is a good question for the discussion forum!
all the bestNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
Why do you think it's your HA's job to wire in your electrical appliances? They're presumably responsible for certain fixed items in the property, but not the cooker. What's health and safety got to do with it? They might be able to suggest a charity or organisation that could help you, but that's about it.
As I said, we don't know if you've got a dedicated cooker circuit or not, because we don't know what was there before. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
