Paternity Pay

I have a friend who is director and sole employee of a limited company that provides contract services. His company pays all the relevant statutory deductions for him as an employee.

His wife is expecting their first child early in the new year and he, as an employee, wishes to take paternity leave. He is interested to know;

a) if he qualifies for paternity pay and, maybe more importantly;

b) will HMRC reimburse his company for the amount paid

I've had a quick look at the HMRC documents relating to paternity pay and can see no obvious reason why not, but I may have missed something obvious.

    a) Everyone is entitled to statutory paternity pay, which is about £138 a week I think. Some companies have other situations, but that's the statuatory minimum.

    b) not sure, will need checking with them.
    Spend what is left after saving. Don't save what is left after spending
  • There was something on the news about Paternity leave but wasn't listening to it. May be an idea to listen to it.

    It's about changes due in 2015, so won't affect the OP's friend.
