Good Energy

I'm not sure if there's an existing thread on this (?) but I'd be interested to hear if anyone's got any experience of these guys, as we're thinking of switching to them:

How are they, price-wise, compared to the 'big 6' energy suppliers? And what's their customer service like?

(We've been with NPower for years and would like to switch, as we've never been that happy with them..)

2 minutes on any comp site will tell you how competitive they are vs the Big Six for your usage and region. Good Energy are a 'green' supplier, they'll not be any cheaper than the Big Six.
As for CS, it's always better if you choose a smaller supplier.

As rough figure having just done it, on a reasonably average £1300 annual bill with a competitive Big 6 supplier you'd probably pay around £1400 with Good Energy.

However, if you want to retain the competitive rates with the Big 6 you will be forever jumping about and switching tariffs to avoid settling onto something highly priced whereas GE only run one core tariff which remains around the same level compared to the best all the time. (There is a South West only tariff but that again is a variable slightly cheaper version of their normal tariff for those living nearest their generation points). They've just announced a price freeze through to the transmission cost increase after March next year.

  • Thankyou.

No, we wouldn't want to keep jumping around, it would be better if we keep with one supplier. We're in a flat and at the moment our dual-fuel costs about £200 per quarter approximately.

I've actually never used comparison sites before! :o

Google has thrown up a few, like uswitch and gocompare. There's also a Which? section on utilities but I'd think you need to subscribe to Which in order to be able to view it?

Uswitch and Moneysupermarket are as good as any - if you use Uswitch you don't need to put your email address or phone number on the first screen (it sort of implies you do) as this will just get you loads of spam!

The south west tariff is for anyone living in the south west, they do another tariff for people that live very near their windfarm and that is another 30 ish% off the standard prices I think.
  • good energy have terrible customer service - they never get back to you/do what they say they will. im very pro 100% green energy and they are the only company that is 100% green - but they need to sort their act out.

    no smart meters
    no responses
    no online billing/my account
direct debits that are SO wrong even after 3 years with them
multiple answers to the same question that contradict each other and mean i end up spending more!
  • I am in the sw area and will be getting the competitive SW rate. I used to be with GE but changed out a year ago. I am now returning as I miss the extremely good customer service and quick responses. Switchover to GE will be in approx 2 weeks. I highly recommend the company and do not work for them btw
