Joining EPDM rubber & felt flat roofs

We need to replace our garage roof but it is semi-detached with next doors garage.
I'm impressed by the EDPM rubber roofing material (our porch was done a few years ago) and would favour getting somebody to re-roof the garage with it.
Does anybody know if there is a proper procedure for joining a new EDPM rubber roof lining with an existing felt roof?
One local company quoted, saying it was not a problem as there were special joining pieces available.
Another company said it could not be done.
Any roofing experts out there?
