But I'm sure I've read here that if you start with a sub 4kWp system and register that for FIT then add an independent extra system of sub 6kWp you'd get the 4kWp rate for the first one and the 10kWp rate for the second.

That's probably better than leaping straight in with a bigger system.

There might be extra scaffolding costs etc - but if SPs are being fitted to two different rooves you'd need two sets of scaffolding anyway.

Very true Eric but we're talking a difference between the two rates of about £40 a year for the first 4kWp, multiply that by 20 years and your lookin at £800 to £1000 with RPI. Depending when/if they were to extend, the FIT for 4-10kWp may have decreased by more than that. Because the difference between the rates is now so nominal surely if you have the room it'd be better to go large now rather than later.

Depends what you call "later" ! I had in mind just long enough to get first system registered - perhaps the following month.

I have been told that if you go over 4kw system you pay VAT on the entire installation. Is there any truth in this?

You pay VAT on any install but only at 5% for residential and that's including above 4kWp. If I remember correctly its only on commercial installs that attracts 20%(could be wrong).

My parents are looking at 8kWp and its still 5%

    Hi,
I have a quote for £6570 (discounted price (6750)) for
    16 x SolarWorld 250 or
    14 x LG 285
    SMA inverter
    Black panels and black frame
Is this a good price for a 4kW system?
WHich panel would be a better choice- I am leaning towads the LG.

Hiya, I know LG do a 285Wp panel, but is it definitely available black on black? Hopefully it is, and I'm just a little out of date.

    Mart.

PS Why choose, be cheeky and haggle for 16 285Wp panels for the same price (they are about £200 each), FiT will be 10% lower though. :)
