As the title says really - I'm after a new laptop, and reserved this: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=1500002951&langId=110&productId=911672
at Argos as part of the Black Friday deal but I don't want to be too hasty.
Can someone check spec etc and tell me if it's a good laptop / good price / good buy please?
I am going to mainly use it for entering competitions, watching iplayer / 4OD etc, storing (lots of) pics and of course, browsing my fave site MSE
I'm going to be totally honest and say I don't understand computer jargon so I've not got a clue with the spec etc
Thank you

Asus is a terrible make of device in my opinion, for that price range i would recommend something like this:

OR

Thanks for that GlasgowTech, I'm quite taken with the Asus as it has a touchscreen, and though I might as well get the latest technology if I'm getting a new laptop as hopefully it will last a good few years before I have to replace it. Don't suppose you've seen a touchscreen in a similar price bracket?
Also, what makes Asus a bad brand in your opinion please?0 -
I'll have a look for you!
But i can almost guarantee you that it will break or become faulty in a way!
Asus are usually very cheap to buy... Usually because their cheeply made!

Asus is supposedly better than average but buying cheap laptops is a bit of a lottery in my view. If you can get a 2 year warranty it may be worth it.

That Asus is faster the those laptop recommend by GlasgowTech.
Asus with i3, if I remember correctly, that is with 2nd gen, and usually at £400.
That machine decent enough for your applications
BTW, Asus is not a bad brand IMO. Please google laptop malfunction rate yourself.0 -
If you can shell out another hundred quid i would highly recommend the below:

The build quality of Asus machines is atrocious!
I would never recommend one to an end user. I have had my fair share of their laptops&tablets in many different environments and none have lived up to 'expectation' (low to begin with)0 -
I do like the look of that Lenovo but not sure if I can stretch to an extra £100 hmmmmm
Also, just been looking at reviews of Asus and it seems they've upped their game recently and are getting good reviews...0 -

Last one i bought was around 1.5 years ago, may possibly have sorted them selves out...0 -
I'm torn - I normally spend a lot of time researching expensive items I buy but cos it's a black Friday deal, I've only got til 5pm tonight to decide if I want it or not. Decisions decisions!0
