Hi all.
I want to buy my tech savvy hubby a new laptop for Christmas but I really don't know where to start. He currently has an MSI CROIO MS 1684, I cannot find the spec for this anywhere, and don't know what would be best to replace it, he uses it on a regular basis but does not use it for gaming, any advice much appreciated.
I am buying for an IT pro and totally in the dark, so it would need to be a top spec laptop.
Many thanks in advance

Does it look like this ?

If so
Then an SSD might make it speedy again

Yes globalds it does look like that but he really does need a new one and he has promised his niece she can have his. He has had this for the last 5 yrs and I have the money to buy him a new one. The thing is I am trying to find out the spec of the model he has so I can buy the one he needs.
Many thanks

what is your budget ?
That will really be the most important thing.
Then you need to have a think and if needed ask some probing questions to work out what he needs
first the size
if he uses his laptop just at home ..then a bigger screen with a full sized keyboard may be his desire ..
But if he lumps it all over the place ..then a really fast but small machine would tick his boxes.
Now smaller machines can cost more ..and battery life has to be considered ..
have a think and post a few more things about your budget and his needs and you will get two things from this site .
A real effort to find a best price for his dream machine ..and a heated argument by some posters who will try to decide for you what you need

Hi globalds,
Thanks for your reply.
He only uses it at home and runs a website, and also uses xbmc for movies, dont really mind the budget TBH as he deserves it.

Also most IT pros do not like expensive gifts they can not use, or have to buy it yet again as it is not too the correct spec the first time. I'd be miffed if someone spent around £1000 or more on the wrong laptopmost men/it pro's don't like surprise gadget presents, ask him.

Don't do it, you'll almost certainly get it wrong, at a basic level would he want a Mac or Windows machine?
Buy some candles, invite him up to the boudoir wearing a smile, and ask to be specific about what he wants, in a PC of course. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I would say set the budget first.
However, if your budget allow, probably go for something with i7, with dedicated GPU
