New Barclays contactless card - old pin does not work

I was recently sent a new Barclays contactless debit card, although my current card does not expire until June 2014. It can be used by just swiping, no pin needed, for amounts under £20. However it is a different card number to my existing cards and I was advised to change all my automated payments which used the existing card number.
On the leaflet that accompanied it, it said to activate it, I had to use my pin the first time I used it. So as I was in the garage today buying £25 of petrol I decided to use the occasion to activate it. It rejected my (current) pin three times as invalid. I had to use my old card.
I have read all the literature that accompanied it and nowhere does it say I need to set up a new pin and I certainly have not been sent one. But I assume that as it is a new number, it will indeed need a new pin. Anyone else having this problem?:(

I have a barclays credit card with contactless technology, and to activate that one I'm sure I had to call the provider as is the way I've had to with every other credit or debit card I've ever had. (in the last 10+ years)
If you've now had the PIN rejected 3 times, I think the card may be blocked anyway.
Perhaps you should give them a call?0 -

Replacement cards for an existing account often don't require activation, and you can just start using the new card with the original PIN. I've had several replacement cards over the years that haven't needed activation prior to use.0 -
You will need to unlock the PIN as well now.0
