Do we need an antivirus on windows 8.1 since windows security essentials is included in it ??

Not really.
Windows Defender (what Security Essentials is called in W8 (not the old Defender)) is a decent anti-virus and anti-malware solution. Some are better, some are worse, it does a good job.0 -
