Sure Start

Hi

I just applied for the sure start grant we have had our 2nd child, we didnt get anything for the first child.

I don't get any benefits , excpet Child Tax Credit and CB, both of these are given to my wife not me, but for Child Tax Credit it's still in the same statement.

Sure Start told me I will not be getting any money this time either , they just give standard letter saying becuase you don't get XYZ.

I was convinced according to my calcs our tax credit was above the familty element, but we still got turned down. I have told the child tax credit people that we have a new baby and a new statement will be sent that should defo put us over the Family element

What is the best course of aciton , to appeal and tell them abotu the new statement or can i just kiss it good bye because i dont claim income support or job seekers etc?

    Hello Skipbop2009,

Did your wife apply in her name?(You have more chances with her applying). Can you tell me what reasons for not getting Grant were stated in the letter?

I had a baby few weeks ago and applied for Grant while i was still pregnant and got it. I was working full time at the time but my husband wasn't (he wasn't claiming Jobseekers or anything else). You should give them a call or submit the application again.

While I was pregnant my midwife suggested that If don't get it first time to reapply after the birth of the baby.

I don't see why they refused you. You are on the reduced income because your wife is on maternity and you have two kids.

Anyways- Give them a call and if you don't get positive answer reapply again. Just make sure you do it before baby is 3 month old.

    Good luck.
