Fault claim by additional driver

The additional driver on my policy was involved in a fault accident and made a claim on my policy. I have always thought that this would end up a black spot against me in the claim registry, if there is such a thing.

Today, when I phoned the insurance company to query about the renewal, I was surprised to find that they actually enlisted the accident under the additional driver's name, ie, the accident did not incur an additional claim in my name, but one for the additional driver in the renewal form).

Does this mean that they won't blacklist me in the registry so I do not have to declare the accident in future renewals?

If you were the policyholder and the claim was made under your policy, then you still have to declare the claim in future.

    Thanks.
But doesn't this mean two declarations for one accident, one in my name and one in the additional driver's name?

    Depends.

If you are getting quotes for a policy with the person who caused the incident included as a named driver, then it will be listed against their name.

If you are getting quotes for a policy without them as a named driver, it will be listed against your name.

I am named driver on hubby's policies and IIRC at renewal last year I answered no to the question of "Has your husband had any claims or losses in the last 5 years" but answered yes to the same question about myself.
I think though that if they worded a question to the effect of "Have you had any claims on any past policies" then you would have to say yes.

As always though, if you are phoning around for quotes and aren't sure just ask the person doing the quote for you.

Absolutely right and if you're doing it online phone 'em anyway. Arn't we all tempted to see if we can just squeeze round the wording a little teeny bit.
Forget it - read the TandCs. If you're not sure - you have to tell them otherwise they can turn round at a claim and say - sorry - you didn't tell us all the material facts - we're not paying, so the guy you hit is suing you for a gazillion quid. Oh and by the way we're reporting you to the police 'cos you obtained motor insurance fraudulantly - and that's a criminal offence - next thing you know it's all going down the drain. Tell them the truth and if neccessary pay the extra £30 - you know it makes sense.
