Ovens and hobs: which?

Options
We're (finally I hear those who know us say) getting round to fitting our kitchen. We're looking for a reliable electric double oven and a gas hob.

Which would you recommend? Or which would you say avoid?

Money's less of an issue than reliability.

Advice?
Where now?

 Avoid Belling....from my experience anyway, we have had them out to our cooker 4 times, 3 times because the symbols, letters etc kept on coming off. They said it was the way we cleaned it...yeah...We tried when it was cold, warm, all ways . The cooker ended up at one point with no way to tell how hot it was as it was a nice silver finish as all the writing had come off..this was in the first year:mad:
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!

Common problem that is startrekker, loads of cookers do that and, to be fair to Belling, it is often the cleaning what does it. On the other hand some of the prints that they do are, shall we say, not the best.

What is it that you're looking for pennieman? It really depends on what look you want, what you cook, how often you cook and whether you want them to last for a bit or not.

I've not written a buying guide on cookers, ovens and hobs... yet. ;)

I've currently got an induction hob to test and do video on and, TBH, I'm bursting to try it as I'm told that they're brilliant but I've not tested one yet. However I need to get new pots to try the thing as the ones I have are copper based.

I have written a load on cooker hoods which you can get from this link and also a an article, which was about oven elements, but it explains a lot on various oven functions from this link. There's also one that, while intended to help people that had lost their instruction books, might be of use from this link.

And a bit on hobs from this link.

That should keep you busy for a while.:rotfl:

If you need any more info just ask.

If money is no object then Miele, for something more reasonable, Bosch.

I replaced a Candy (which was made of tinfoil) with a Belling about 12 years ago. The Belling was built like a brick outhouse - all the printing is still in place. I've had to have new springs in the door (as someone above) and one new tube for the control panel light.
    Excellent cooker.

    Hi moonrakerz,

Yeah, that was long before Glen Dimplex bought the brand. ;)
