Declined Halifax Credit Card ...

I've been declined for a Halifax Clarity Credit Card.

I was surprised by this as my Experian Credit Score is 970.

I've printed off a full copy of my Experian Credit Report and am planning to send it to Halifax's Personal Lending Decisions office in Brighton.

Does anyone have experience with this and think it'll do the trick in changing their minds?

Many thanks.

Meaningless number. At best a guide. At worst, one of the most remarkable rip-offs in the UK.

They don't lend. Their number is meaningless.

    Probably not. But try.

    Are you a Halifax customer?

I can't see why it would do the trick if they've checked your report already.
You two posts indicate you think credit is a right.
It isn't and it's up to you whether they lend to you.
Perhaps you aren't in their "target market".

Sometimes it does work to speak to a human as there is a syndrome called "computer says no". Clearly a computer program just works by rules and can't use common sense like a person.

But - bottom line, is that you don't have a right to credit and if they don't want to lend to you they don't have to.

Alas, most persons can't apply common sense either!

People have been declined credit with scores of 993 so its just an utterly meaningless number.

Do you have lots of credit compared your your income? How long have you lived at your current address? On the electoral roll?
Employed and living at the same address for some time?

Are you sure they have checked Experian? or was it just Equifax? or both. Have you checked both?

According to your other post you want the card for travelling.

If you don't need the credit facility, perhaps an N&P current account would be an alternative option: http://www.nandp.co.uk/current-account/.

Like Halifax's Clarity card, N&P offers free overseas usage. But it's a debit card.

I've just returned from the Philippines and probably saved quite a lot of money by using my Halifax Clarity card and N&P debit card.

Having said that, the Philippines is still a cash-based country and finding a cashpoint that was working was a challenge. And I had to show my passport every time I used a card to make a purchase.

Metro Bank also offers fee free overseas transaction on their debit card too: https://www.metrobankonline.co.uk/Personal/Bank-Accounts/CurrentAccounts/.

Thanks for all of your replies. I haven't been living at current address for a while, but I provided my older addresses.

I'll post the appeal and see what happens. Worth a try!

Yes. I was on it at my previous address, but I've registered for my new address. However, apparently this won't appear until February 2014 when the list is updated ...
