Should Scotland be an independent country?

I'm disappointed in the way that this whole campaign has been handled.
Both sides blatantly lie to manipulate the votes. This campaign has become nothing more than a campaign of smear, lies and one-upmanship. The fact is we're being drip fed complete nonsense and half truths so when September comes we're going to be voting based on whatever trough of slurry we favour eating from. But hey we'll feel empowered - right?
If people took the time to look up the facts instead of reading the papers or the petty jabs, circulating the social media they'd find that there's much more to this than meets the eye. This isn't X-Factor. Don't just vote for your favourite entertainer.
The UK political class are self serving elitists but so too are the Scottish politicians. Both the LibLabCon and MSP will screw us over every chance they get.
Personally for me Salmond had his chance but his white paper completely cemented my NO vote. It's full of wind and wishes but no actual game plan. I'm not happy to put this sort of power his way.
Cameron is no better but that's not a good enough reason to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire for me.0 -

If a Scottish resident has been given a link to the poll and chosen to vote in it, does that somehow render their opinion invalid?0

Still haven't changed my view: another pointless poll.0

and who took us into this "illegal" war, Tony Blair, A SCOTSMAN!!!
Tony Blair's about as "Scottish" as the Duke of Edinburgh. He may have been born in Edinburgh, but he spent very little of his life in Scotland and he's said explicitly that he considers himself English, and supports England when they play Scotland at sports.0 -

They give a false indication of what the final result will be but nevertheless they're used as ammunition to spur the "winning" side along because at the end of the day Jo public is extremely gullible.0 -
Note: The 'I live in Scotland' vote started rising rapidly late Monday evening. Most of the additional votes were 'yes' (beforehand, 'No' had been winning). Our suspicion is there's been an email/social media campaign to get 'yes' votes - so please take this result with a pinch of salt.

Although it's true that these polls are unscientific and BOTH SETS OF ACTIVISTS are likely to run campaigns, just about every internet/straw poll produces similar results, in line with TV debates, reports from activists on the ground etc. etc. Maybe you will take next year's YES vote with a pinch of salt too? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Who was either chancellor or prime minister during the worst part of the financial mis-management? Gordon Brown, hang on he is a SCOTSMAN.
Both could have been in power in Scotland if Scotland had already been Independent at that point!!
Don't go painting Scots as any "better" people than anyone else! good and bad in all countries!
Here's what's weird and a bit asymmetrical. Pro- Scottish-independence critics of the Government moaned about Maggie and Dave and many other leaders because they were rubbish and incompetent and not because they were English. They lambasted the Westminster government but never referred to their nationality or ethnicity in any way or criticised their Englishness.
And yet anti-Scottish-independence critics of the government /cabinet or ruling party make much of their Scottish composition and never seem to let it go unmentioned. How creepy and racist is that?:eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Firstly, it's not Alex Salmond's White Paper. It's a Scottish Govt. document issued by a government democratically elected by the people of Scotland.
Secondly, you say "it's full of wind and wishes but no actual game plan". Actually, Scotland's Future lays out the "game plan" in great detail.
What we've heard nothing of from the No side, is any positive case whatsoever, or what will happen in the event of a No vote. The Barnett formula, for one thing, is certain to be abolished, though.Mike_Duggan wrote: »If a Scottish resident has been given a link to the poll and chosen to vote in it, does that somehow render their opinion invalid?
Yes. In the event it doesn't fit with the agenda, then of course their choice doesn't count. We can't have people thinking for themselves and not following the Union line
So this...
"Note: The 'I live in Scotland' vote started rising rapidly late Monday evening. Most of the additional votes were 'yes' (beforehand, 'No' had been winning). Our suspicion is there's been an email/social media campaign to get 'yes' votes - so please take this result with a pinch of salt."

It's a shame that you only think of this as a battle between Alex Salmond and David Cameron. Both these politicians are mere mortals and the result of this vote will extend far beyond their lifetimes.
Its not about individual politicians or party politics - its about giving meaningful democratic control back to ordinary Scots. Our votes do next to nothing to influence the outcome of UK elections so why would anyone in London bother listening to us?
If we have our own government our votes will carry much more weight so why would you wish to vote against having more control over your elected government?0
