Advice - what to do next - currys/hotpoint

Hello lovely people,

I wonder if someone (anyone!) has advice on what I should do next.....
Briefly, I brought a new fridge-freezer from Currys in July 2012. It was delivered in early August. Since that time it has, on 4 occasions now, gone wrong. Essentially the freezer goes into overdrive and over freezes (it should be frost free) and consequently the fridge is unable to cool properly and so sits above temperature.
We have had no less than 6 engineer visits (covered by extended warranty thank goodness) all of whom claim to 'fix' the fault only for it to reappear at some future point. The last guy out said it was a common fault with the model we have but that, as yet, there is no solution. So we are left with a useless fridge freezer which has cost us money in food destroyed and days off work hanging around for engineers etc. The latest from Hotpoint is that they are expecting an updated technical briefing about the issue - in 6-8 weeks time. This leaves us without a working fridge again, and over the xmas period as well. To say I am fed up is an understatement.
I have tried complaining to Currys who sold the extended warranty but they just refer onto Hoptpoint who have said tough luck basically and there is nothing else they can do.
The fault corrects briefly after a manual defrost (ie switching off for 24 hrs) but I cant keep doing this - it's damned inconvenient to keep stocks low enough to do so.

Does anyone have thoughts as to what I could or should do next??
Any help would be gratefully received - I am 8 months pregnant and the thought of no fridge for another 8 weeks at least is slowly driving me insane. :rotfl:

Do you have anything in writing acknowledging that its a known inherent fault with the model?

At present it sounds like its all been done under extended warranty. In order to claim under SoGA you may first need to show the fault is inherent (but may be worthwhile talking to currys first especially if manufacturer are indeed saying its a known fault).
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • is it kept in a garage? or in a kitchen etc?
