Repairing a Fire-Back with Fireplace Render

I have a Fire-Back (cast concrete type or whatever it is) in my open fire which is used quite often in the winter and it has seen better days. There is a large crack now running up the bottom half and this is crumbling away. I'm looking at ways of repairing it as opposed to replacing it at the moment (Christmas and all that) and was wondering if anyone had any experience of this they would like to share.
I was thinking of using Fireplace Render like this for example (http://shop.vitcas.com/vitcas-fireplace-render-260-p.asp?gclid=COzNq8-lh7sCFTMftAodEnwAZg)
Anyone any views....????

I used XL to fix a crack.
KOS is similar and could be Black, if preferred.
The render you linked to has 5mm grains and would not get in to the crack.0 -

Thanks,
There is one part which, when I say a crack, I mean a CRACK i.e. there is bit crumbling away...... As they both require loose material to be removed, I recon it could leave a viod rather than a crack hence I was thinking the render stuff.... will look again at both.
Out of interest did it work OK and is it still holding firm.0
