Who can help me to better my credit rating?

Hi everyone,

I am just wondering if there is someone I can "hire" if you like to help me get on top of my credit rating and how to clean it up - I am hoping to apply for a mortgage in 18 months or so, and currently I am getting rejected for loans and bank accounts (I have a good income, I do have some debt on a credit card, but I pay regularly - though there may be a few late/missed payments on my file) I also hold quite a few credit cards. But I consider myself to be financially ok! Clearly the people I am applying to (tried to get a first direct bank account and was rejected_ dont think so!!

So I am aware if I don't sort these things out that I would prob be rejected for a mortgage too!!

Thanks all!

Nobody you can hire to do this for you. The best thing is to look in detail at your credit reports and ask for advice on here.

So firstly you say there may be a few missed payments, if you don't know for sure then it sounds like you haven't looked at your reports. So the first step is to get copies of your credit reports from all 3 credit reference agencies.

These are experian, equifax and callcredit (aka noddle). The callcredit file you can access for free via the noddle website..
The other 2 you could sign up to free trials to see your report, but you may find it easier just to order the £2 statutory reports to take a look at.

When you have your files you need to look through them in detail to see what they say and see if there are any errors on them. The posters on this forum should be able to advise you on how to improve things.

If you want a mortgage in 18months then you definitely need not to be missing/paying late on any account.

You can hore me. My crystal ball says your credit score is 9999.1 out of 100. (not a typo) Just meaninless numbers like any other score.

Only you can help your credit score.. Having some debt showing regular income and outgoings is a good start. Never having any missed or late payments is another.
Being stable is what lenders want. If you have had 20 jobs that lasted less than a week or move house weekly then your not stable.

You hold quite a few credit cards... Get rid of some?

If you spent every penny on them all how much is that of your yearly income?

  • Noddle do a free credit report, although very basic it can show you if you have missed payments. When i checked mine my old bank and my old phone provider had not updated correctly. Something like this maybe causing you an issue...
