Weird IP KVM Idea for dual monitor

Options
hihi.

My machine has 1 gfx in it. On the network is a random pc that i dont use and it has a monitor.

Now, would there be a way to use that 2nd monitor as a 2nd monitor for my main machine in the sense of standard dual monitor.

So, in other words, sharing the 2nd monitor over the network to be used as a 2nd one....

Any ideas?

So 2nd Pc on network can see your display.

Sounds like you would need to use Remote Access software like Pc Anywhere or similiar. I think Windows XP has a remote support facility that may allow something like this.

No not so 2nd pc on network can see your display. So 2nd pc on network is an extra display... very very very different.

Imagine putting 2 monitors into one pc right? The mouse can just move to the other screen.

i want to do this using a monitor connecting to another pc (not in use) over the network :)

You need to a gfx card with two connectors (one for each monitor). I don't know of anything else that does dual display in the way you describe it... you can get devices to let you switch between monitors.
Faith is believing what you know ain't so...

Well my work machine does indeed have a gfx card with 2 connectors :)

I want it that way over IP though basically hehe...

I know its a long shot but surely its possible to share a resource like that over the network? Like when you make a network printer local :p

  • Its not such a weird idea - been thought of a long time before. There are a couple of programs that I know of specifically for this purpose.

One is : multiplicitypro from stardock (which I haven't used).
The other is:Maxivista (nothing to do with vista os - it works on xp) which I have tried and was pretty darn good to be honest. First time you try it its really weird - and cool - to be able to move your mouse from one monitor to another (on a completely different pc). But like anything the novelty wears off after a while.

    Both products have free demos.

As Duke Nuke-em would say: Damn' I'm good.
