ARGOS CANCELLING ORDERS - PAYPAL n QUIDCO

Just a warning to be careful when trying to get the best deals from Argos. (and perhaps Quidco/Argos/Paypal combo)
PROBLEM
Up until Friday Argos were doing 10% cashback on tablets from Quidco. (plus you get the £10 voucher for spending more than £100).
I ordered one and got a confirmation email from Paypal.
I actually made two transactions with argos and paypal. The payment for tablet sat there "Pending" for 4 days (the other went through). Neither tracked on Quidco.
I called Argos who had no record of tablet order.
I received two email saying that Argos had cancelled the order with a ARG number that noone recognises in customer service. Useless.
CAUSE
Argos do have a Paypal team who I finally got to speak to who then cancelled the order. They refused to accept it was their fault but said it "probably was". They said they never took the money, but I pointed out they have caused me to be out of pocket for 10 days even if they dont physically have the money.
1) Conspiracy theorist in me thinks they did not want to sell the tablet with over £40 cashback (inc quidco + their voucher) when it is already heavily discounted. Hence there was a mysterious issue noone can explain. Also the next day the cashback for Tablets dropped to 1.5%.
2) Rational voice in my head says Argos are simply struggling to cope with all the orders for Christmas. Although I have had two other emails with failed order codes too. Definately using paypal (not sure if I used Quidco). So wonder if this Process is flawed. Be warned!
BIGGEST CRITICISM
My paypal balance money is now in limbo for 5 days! I have to wait 48 hours for paypal to cancel it from pending if they do. Then wait up to 7 working days for it to go back to my card or restore the balance. Great Thanks Argos!
I have now reserved one to collect in store as I no longer trust using online payment methods with Argos using Quidco and Paypal.

Hijacking the thread here a little but the last 3 purchases I have made were I paid with PayPal have not tracked in Quidco.
I made the purchases at ASOS and Dorothy Perkins, not sure if paying with PayPal is co-incidence...FTB

It could be an issue with paypal as where i work sometimes paypal transactions can cause issues where they don't authorise the payment to the retailer which means order can only be cancelled or the order cannot be traced at all and it happens quite a bit with paypal. It may be worth speaking to them if argos dont have a record of it because it could be an issue on paypals end.0
