We will need some more information, please.

Make / model. Antivirus, operating system and email, web browser.

To start please read the sticky at the top of the forum. You will need to download and install Ccleaner and Malwarebytes.

Chrome has been giving some users issues. Get firefox or opera.

    Done windows updates?

And get rid of McAfee also... Avast seems popular at the moment. I have gone off AVG..

I had this on a PC a couple of weeks ago. Not saying it's definitely this but it had 168 bits of malware after downloading "just one file".

As my previous, run Ccleaner and Malwarebytes. If you can't get in to download then try safe mode.

Also in IE Tools> Manage Add-Ins.
Remove any unwanted Toolbars and Search Providers.

McAfee is just crap whether you paid for it or not.

If you have McAfee and Avast installed then there is one issue. A conflict.

They will be trying to scan the same files at the same time.

Assuming you are using a router, turn off the mcafee firewall for starters, avast is free, available on filehippo, make sure you deselect the chrome installation and full avast trial if installing

desktop freezes or internet enabled programs don't work? how is the machine connected to the router?
