Sky To BT

I have signed up for BT, just phone and broadband, signed up last night wanted to take up there offer of £100 Sainsbury's gift card and free internet for six months.

Do I need to telephone Sky to cancel my phone and broadband with them, I am not in a contract with them for either. Or will BT just take over and inform my current supplier...?

However for now I also wish to still keep my Sky Box, until I purchase a DVR Humax one next year.

I think BT advise Sky if you are keeping your number etc, if you signed up on line didn't it say if they did everthing ?, did you use a Migration authorisation code ?
If you were happy to get a new number, didn't get a MAC then you may have ordered a brand new line from BT rather that BT taking over the existing Sky line, if that is the case you probably want to call Sky and tell them your leaving them

Nothing stopping you keeping the Sky box as it's yours from day 1. However remember that once you have cancelled it will no longer record and will just allow you to view.

I know that, but what I meant was I intend to keep the Sky Subscription for now...

They are using the same line, same number and didn't ask for a MAC code. Sky once told me over the phone about six months ago I did not need to inform them I was leaving I just needed to get someone to take over...
  • A word of warning about switching to BT from Sky. We wanted to switch to BT line rental and infinity to take advantage of the free BT Sport channels. I placed the order on October 19 and received note that the line and broadband would be switched on November 4th. Nobody turned up and nothing happened so I rang up to find there was a problem on their system which meant the order couldn't be processed, this went on for weeks until they decided to cancel my order and start again. Finally my line was connected in November 27 but I have just received a text to say my broadband is delayed again.

So the upshot is that BT left me with no phone line for over 3 weeks and are going to have left us with no internet for over a month. They have messed us around massively, failed to communicate with us all over a simple changeover from Sky which required no physical engineering work. I wouldn't take the risk personally but it's your choice.
  • Thanks for posting ....

My parents are being totally messed around BT to Tesco. Just who is at fault for all these problems that last for weeks and months on end. When one rings TESCO customer care, and without a landline, it's most costly - they don't seem to give a dam.
  • There seems to be huge problems with this switching process, it appears simply not to work. The safest thing is to stay put otherwise there is a good chance you will have no phone or internet for months and BT aren't bothered.
  • Shocking state of affairs ! And my poor parents and me are powerless to do anything but to wait. TESCO - say ring back as its BT's fault - but how can they, they have NO LANDLINE

Is there anyone from TESCO on here who can help us.?
