Help with BT / Ethernet Adaptors

Some time ago we bought some Ethernet Adaptors from BT which stopped working. In March this year we had the adaptors replaced by BT.
Now one of them has burnt out (horrible melting plastic smell came from it). We went back to BT and they passed us on to the manufacturers, ZyXel. On the 4th of November ZyXel told us they would send out a replacement adaptor free of charge because ours was clearly faulty.
3 weeks has gone by and still no adaptor. On 15th November we were promised that we would have a new adaptor in 4 working days. We chased it up again today to be told that the adaptors are actually out of stock and there wont be any more in the UK until 7th December.
BT are denying any involvement in this, even though the original purchase was from them. Frustratingly they have the adaptors in stock on their website but refuse to help.
Our son is paying for XBox live which he cant use because he cant connect to the internet in his bedroom and we seem to be getting nowhere.
Any ideas please?

Yes, I have a few.
1) Have a read of MSE's Consumer Rights guide.
Here is just one short extract from that guide:Know who's responsible
When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!
If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.
It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with them.
2) How about your son using the Xbox nearer the broadband router?
3) Consider buying a cable to connect the router to the Xbox.0 -
Thank you thats helpful, we are now going to go back to BT who we originally bought the adaptors from.
I will update when I get a response back from them.0 -
I'm assuming you're talking about homeplug adapters? When did you buy them?0

We got them in March this year to replace previous ones which had also stopped working. These are Zyxel Mini Powerline Ethernet Adaptors. We are still no further on and still waiting to get hold of someone at BT who can help. BT dont have anyone available over the weekend so we now have to wait until Monday morning.
Both BT and Zyxel have agreed that the product was faulty and have agreed that we need to be sent out a replacement. The problem is actually getting that replacement and we have now been waiting 4 weeks.
I have a horrible feeling that we will just get this sorted and one of the other 2 in the house will pack up. Anyone thinking of buying these products be warned!!0
