They are allowed to test the laptop first.

I can't help but think your attitude towards the company and it's employees might help to explain why you feel you haven't had the best service in the past...

Excuse me? When you spend £1000 on a laptop you expect that laptop to work. And when it doesn't you expect a refund. Yes? So when you take a faulty laptop into a store and they are calling you a liar and refusing a refund would you be happy?

In response to others, I will get a video recorded, and take my MacBook with me with the Sony page loaded. Then if they can't produce the fault at least I have enough evidence to prove it's happening.

Saying that, I can't imagine them giving a refund because as they told me on the phone, they will be out of pocket because Sony won't cover a non faulty laptop. Exactly the reason why Sony is refusing to take blame for the problem. When they do, they will have thousands of laptops flooding back to them demanding a refund.

Just shows why it's best to check reviews of products before parting with your money.

If you won't let them test it the they aren't just going to take your word for it...recording its also a good idea...

I'm not sure when I should tell you it's currently got 10% off either... :(

Alternative viewpoint ... If you buy a laptop and a fault develops in the first 24 hours, are you deemed to have "accepted" the goods? If not then you can reject for a full refund - you DO NOT have to allow the supplier the opportunity to offer any other remedy.
  • How did you pay for the laptop? If it was by any form of credit then the credit provider are jointly and severally liable to you under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act so you can claim the full amount from the credit provider if the laptop is indeed faulty.
  • Does the 1979 sale of goods act not cover this then? An item must be of merchantable quality and suitable for its use?

Yes the Sale of Goods Act does cover it. However if they refuse to accept the laptop is faulty then OP will have to make a small claim to force them to pay. It will be up to PC world to prove to the court that the laptop is not faulty.

A section 75 claim would be a little less hassle than that, although I would still go to PC World first. Afterall they haven't actually refused the refund yet.
  • John Lewis refunded my Sony Vaio for this wifi problem. They initially wanted to send it off to test but I had already contacted Sony and they emailed and admitted the problem and said they were working on it. John Lewis accepted this, PC World, on the other hand, are a different kettle of fish!

They are not offering another method though - they just want to prove the reason for rejection... SOGA only allows rejection under certain circumstances.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I hope you get it resolved.
Can I suggest that assuming all gets resolved you then purchase your replacement on Internet so that next time DSR will come into play.
