Law of Attraction

Good Afternoon All,

At the weekend I met up with a good friend of mine whom I had not seen for quite some time. He was a lot more positive, running his own business and was about to go on a month long holiday.

After a few drinks he told me the changes were down to the "Law of Attraction" which he said involved visualising what he wanted and believing in it would be brought to him.

I am the most cynical person there is but he was worse so I was surprised that he believed in such.

Does anyone else believe in this?

I don't believe that all these things have come into his life because he sat at home and visualised them.

I do believe that because he spent time visualising what he wanted to happen, he became more focused in his life, went out and networked, grabbed opportunities and worked hard to make his dreams happen.
  • If you mean the fully fledge version as per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_attraction then no

I do strongly believe in having a positive mental attitude which naturally encompasses having self belief. If you think something is going to fail then you wont give it all your effort, its not possible to motivate yourself to do that on something you know will fail, and therefore naturally it is more likely to fail than if you had given it your all.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Sounds like that neuro-linguistic programming shit. I guess that if he's following some wacky creed that he believes in he might be feeling more confident and making better choices as a result but at the end of the day there's no magic method to how to live your life well.

I've got a friend who's into all this - he's the most miserable mess you could imagine, poor love. It's doing !!!! all for him, that's for sure.

That would be one of many concerns I would have with this.

It depends to what extreme you are doing things. If you become reckless or do the sit at home and wait for things to come to you version then yes things can fairly easily turn bad.

If you just have self belief, some optimism and positive mental attitude then you are more likely to be in a better place in a years time but of cause, anyone can be run-over by a bus at any time as my gran used to say (she obviously didn't live in a small market town when buses don't run at night or on sundays etc)

Dont apply for a job because you dont think you'll get it and you definitely wont. Apply for a job even though its a stretch and you may get it, worst case is that you dont. Seems simple to me which approach is best.

I think people who have a lot of problems, for whatever reason, are drawn to these sorts of things. My friend is the sweetest guy imaginable but he's a bit of a mess when it comes to relationships. He falls in love incredibly easily, declares that *this* time he's found 'the one', moves in, expects the world, the poor girl inevitably finds it difficult to meet his expectations and they split up a year or so later amidst much bitterness and 'she turned out to be a nutter' tales.

This pattern is repeated over and over. Instead of looking at himself, his approach to relationships, his feelings about women, his choices, his childhood (his parents divorced acrimoniously and his mother left abruptly) he turns to the latest wacky craze and decides it's the answer to all his problems.

I think that's probably quite common for these sorts of lifestyle things. They attract all sorts of emotional wrecks. Hardly much of an advertisement :D

    I 100% agree.

It's positive thinking. I believe a positive mental attitude and visualising what you want have kept me well balanced for the most part and helped me achieve many things in life.

People seem to imagine 'visualizing' things, are sitting around meditating and waiting for stuff to come to them, but no, its about planning, and making things happen - actually putting some thought into what you want and GOING FOR IT! Good luck to the OPs friend, just goes to show what changes can be made!

The mind is our most powerful tool!

negative people do tend to draw negative happenings to them like magnets, moan moan moan, i will never get that job, moan moan i will never get a partner, etc etc it drives friends and relationships away as is the most boring thing ever and it becomes a self fullfilling prophecy
The opposite of what you know...is also true

Yes actually I am a believer and have had the law of attraction work for me on a number of occassions. You will always get people who are sceptical of these things and to a degree I was the same until I watched the below mentioned dvd and it started working for me, I have had money come to me from the most unexpected sources at the most needed times and have had opportunities that I don't believe would have happened otherwise.

2 years ago a friend lent me a dvd called The Secret and there is a book out with the same title, I have never read the book just watched the dvd and still watch it every now and again, no doubt it will get slated as mumbo jumbo etc on here but what I can tell you as fact, is that it made me think differently and focus more on the positive rather than dwell on the negative.

If your intrigued then I can only suggest read the book or watch the dvd and make your own judgements but what do you have to lose?

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. That's not mumbo jumbo at all and is part of many credible self-help techniques such as CBT.

I'm a big fan of the power of negative thinking. My ability to predict and plan for worst-case outcomes gives me more confidence when taking big steps like setting up businesses. :)
