Ideal world

We ordered the "chef tony" 8 piece blender /mixer set , it arrived in 2 days which was great BUT with a 2 pin plug !!!
I rang the customer service dept only to be told cant you just buy an adapter. After about 5 mins on explaining why i want going to do that he agreed to have it picked up by my Hermes today but said we must get a trackable receipt.
My Hermes came today and tried to leave just a piece of paper with the drivers name written on it needless to say we wouldn't let it go and is now returning tomorrow to collect it.

I submitted a review stating the item has a 2 pin plug and does not meet current UK electrical legislation needless to say they have declined my review.

im done with them now cant be bothered with the hassle.

Yes it's £2.35 but it would be quicker to order one than post here.

You missed the major point in that it is illegal to sell items in the UK with a 2 pin plug. Why should the OP compromise on this ? Ideal Home appear to have broken the law.

Not altogether correct Boots sell electrical toothbrush which fits onto a charger via a 2 pin plug, presumably so you can fit it into the dedicated bathroom shaver socket, if you want to charge up on normal 3pin socket you need an adapter, which is supplied.
  • Are you sure about the two pin plug being illegal? I just bought a razor from boots and came with one which i have a two pin adaptor to charge it at home.

I thought all razors were supplied with a 2 pin.

Are there restrictions as to what can be supplied with a 2 pin ?

    http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/http://www.berr.gov.uk/Policies/business-sectors/environmental-and-technical-regulations/technical-regulations/ec-product-directives/plugs-and-sockets-etc-safety-regulations
Most electrical equipment intended for use in and around the home will need to comply with the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994. Additionally the Regulations require that the majority of such equipment, when placed on the UK market, must be fitted with a plug that has been approved by a notified body and either conforms to BS 1363 or offers an equivalent level of safety.

As an alternative to fitting a BS 1363 plug, it is permissible, to fit a "conversion plug" The "conversion plug" must be approved by a notified body and meet various conditions set out in the Regulations. An 'adaptor' is not a conversion plug.

I think the exceptions are 2-pin plugs are allowed for devices designed for use with (protected) bathroom power units. (So electric razors etc.) And for things like phones and tablets, the charger plug usually comes with different attachments designed to suit the normal socket outlet of the country of use - this meets the definition of the last paragraph of the above quote (IMHO).

tl;dr ... The OP is correct.

My point was that after the OP had spent 5 minutes on the phone getting no progress, for a couple of quid you can get the adapter and move on with life and chalk it up to a bad shopping experience.

You mean ... get an adaptor that is either illegal or designed for an entirely different purpose (electric razors)? ;)

a] why should i have to buy an additional item?
b] had this info been in the ad/presentation i would never have bought it.

incidentally the product is no longer on the ideal world site.
