Boiler Question

So, it all happens at once then
Our combi boiler started leaking last night so we switched it all off and got an engineer out this morning. He came to look at the boiler and said the fill values have gone and parts need to be ordered. He then proceeded to close the mains water supply to the boiler as the pressure kept rising, but then told us we could still use the central heating. I thought nothing of this, and he then left to come back and fit the parts when they have arrived.
The problem I have is that he switched the boiler off, so I don't know if I can run the central heating on a vaillant combi boiler without a mains water supply. I cannot phone the engineer to ask him as this is being done through boiler cover and the only number I have is for a call centre to get the engineer to come out.
All the internet posts I've read suggest I can switch the boiler back on and have no hot water but have central heating. What are peoples thoughts?

If the boiler is holding pressure now, you should be fine. The central heating is not connected to the water supply when in use, you just use the filling loop and tap to fill or top up the central heating from time to time. Best practice would probably say disconnect the filling loop when in use (nobody I know does).0
