We owe it to the kids! Debt Free Life...here we come!

Thought it best to write this down while I am all geared up to get this debt cleared once and for all! :j
I have been in debt since my first catalogue at age 18 - im now 39 and think some of the debts I am paying are from many years ago. I have been on reduced payments of £5 etc for so long that the balances just seem to stay the same - I know they don't and my Barclaycard is now just over £500 as opposed to £1.5k when I started repaying! I know they are coming down and think I have relied on the fact they are small payments for too long - its time to clear it all once and for all!
In total both myself and hubby owe around £65k not including around 90k for a mortgage debt that a company are chasing us for. After some really bad circumstances around 7 years ago we lost our house and they sold it via auction for less than half its purchase price. We are still fighting with them over procedures that weren't followed on that one!
I am listing on ebay like a mad woman and have almost managed to close one of the debts down in the last 3 weeks just from bits sold, via ebay, facebook, fatbrain etc. So things are looking good and I know we can do it!
Those purse strings are feeling the pull and we have told the kids this year is going to be a very lean one - I expected it to go down like a lead balloon but they are more excited about spending time together playing games and watching movies plus the big dinner ive promised them! We are so lucky to have the kind of kids we do - they aren't materialistic and never ask for anything so we owe it to them to be able to provide for them and surprise them with things now and again....at the minute we just cant as things are so tight.
The kids are our main reason for wanting to clear everything and they are all on board with the whole reasoning - they are actually quite excited at the prospect of collecting roadkill (pennies left lying around, not actual roadkill! ), baking together and working out meal planners etc.
We can do this and we will do this! :T:j

Hi just wanted to say we're in a similar position and have finally spoken to someone about sorting our debt. We are going to be on an especially tight budget this month but I'm determined to stick to it. I'm on countdown to the 20th Dec, as thats when Hubby gets paid next.....Grocery Challenge 2024

Mara I watched a programme where people ate roadkill etc so I cant see it doing any harm and if it saves a few pennies I bet the cats and you are happy!

Mrs Cheshire Ditto here too. Hubbys next payday is around the 20th too so I will try and get as much paid off from ebay etc as I can and then hopefully have a few spare pennies to get some little treats for Christmas!

Hello Diary,
Today has been quite productive!
Lots of parcels posted!
LOTS of competitions entered - think ive managed to end of month finally!
Sorted out more bits to be listed on ebay.
Going to sit shortly and count down the minutes before some large items finish on ebay - thus enabling me to pay another chunk off a debt!
Christmas decs up - tree goes up this weekend on the 1st.
Meal planner sorted for the week and prices checked so fingers crossed may come in under budget for the month.
Going to take some time tonight to have a little pamper session and use a facemask etc. Trying to use up some of the beauty stuff I have here instead of just looking at it thinking it looks pretty!
ooh and hubby gave me 5p he found to go into the roadkill pot! bonus!Sell 100 items - 81/100 - £734.41:j Make £10 a day Dec £148.97/£350

Sounds like a very productive day, I've spent some time looking at the finances to see what going out and in when to see if we can cover the bills. I've also been sorting the piles of mail and junk to try and find some documents, they've not turned up yet, but the piles are smaller and organised now.
Found 10p in pennies around and about whilst tidying so thats going into the sealed pot!Grocery Challenge 2024

I love finding money around the house - I just have to make sure I get there before the kids!
Good luck on finding the documents - its always the same isn't it, I am sure I see them every day then as soon as I need them theyre no where to be seen! Im actually enjoying receiving mail now as it means I know exactly where I stand and how much the bills are coming down whereas before I hated it as they were all debt reminders!Sell 100 items - 81/100 - £734.41:j Make £10 a day Dec £148.97/£350

I know that feeling, I'm not sure where I last see them. It's possible I've taken them out in the car at some point and not bought them straight back in again. Need to check the glove compartment and doors!Grocery Challenge 2024

Morning!
Sun is shining but theres a bite to the air this morning, definitely looks like snow is on its way!
Today shall consist of...
paying first batch of bills (£825 paid 29/11)
at least 2 loads of washing
hoover throughout
get tree out of cupboard upstairs ready for kids to put up tomorrow
move furniture around living room to make room for said tree
practice giant yorkshire puddings for tea - for some reason its one thing ive never been able to make!
other than that i think a slow day is in order, eldest will pick up youngest from school so that saves me a trip out today.
Other than bills it should be a NSD and i have a few bits finishing on ebay too so money in instead of out!
