first telecom- not sure what to do??

Hi, I wondered if you could help me. I currently have my line rental and calls through first telecom, i find it saves me money and i'm pleased with the service. I'm hopefully moving home in a month and called first telecom and they said i will have to leave them as they don't give numbers to customers (new phone numbers). Do you know if anyone else than bt give numbers that won't hold me in a contract for a year, i'm in a contract with first telecom and to leave before 18 months is a fifty quid fine, but i'd love to stay with them and just get another number. Hope this makes sense, also does anyone find having the phone, net etc in a package much cheaper? thanks :o

Daft idea, but it may work: would First Telecom be willing to take over an existing BT line?

What you could do is to ask First if they'd transfer your contract to your new address starting on the day you move in. In theory, they should be able to take control of the BT line on that day without you needing to have the BT line at the new address first (I think).

Best to see if there's anything they can do for you - tell them you want to stay with them when you move as you like their service and they may come up with something to help.

If there is an exisiting BT line installed, the Phone Co-Op will offer a line restart for a minimum term of just 3 months.

They normally have a £5.88 connection charge but this is currently waived. Line rental is £10.90/month. After the 3 months you could transfer over to First Telecom if you prefer. It avoids the 12 months BT insist on.

    Stuart,

I only had a 3 month minimum term with BT when I reactivated my line with them after I returned from a year Down Under. I wonder if it's different if you're returning to BT than if you're a brand new customer?
