Cheapest way to do turkey for Christmas?

Options
OK, so I went to my local butcher today and they want £40-£50 for a 10lb turkey. I nearly died. Where's the cheapest place to get a turkey? And I don't mind if it's a turkey crown or turkey roll. Just need to be able to feed 6 on Christmas day for as little as poss. Thanks!

Aldi have Turkey Crowns for 9.99 and turkeys are a bit more, Lidl have some turkeys for 9.99.
  • I have two of the Aldi turkey crowns stashed away already. I got one last year and there was loads of eating on it. This year I thought I would get one for New Year too. Next week I plan on getting one of their large gammon joints.

Iceland seem to have good offers this year. Saw whole turket for £9.00 and turket crown for 10.00. Both more than enough for 6.

I got a 4.5Kg frozen free range turkey for £18 from Morrisons. It won the Good Housekeeping taste test this year.

if you can wait it out, go to the supermarket at about 3pm on christmas eve and wait for them to reduce the fresh turkeys. i did this last year and got a £21 bird for £7 from waitrose. i had to wait a while - a good half hr, 45 mins but there were quite a few and some people took 3!!

I second Turkey drumsticks. Tesco's value ones are £1.85 for 700g. I've used them to feed at least two before and in my opinion, the drumsticks taste better than a whole turkey anyway.

I use ready to roast turkey breast joints from sainsburys and tescos do similar, they fit in my oven more easily!

Cheapest "way" is to live life on the edge.... and hit all the shops in the last few hours before they close on Xmas Eve.
