Fascia & Guttering replacement

I know this question has been asked a 1000 times but your input would be appreciated.
I need to replace the wooden fascia boards and guttering on my Victorian mid terraced house. What costs would/should I be looking at and can anyone recommend anyone in the Hull area?

work out the meterage, times it by 50 and that will give you a rough price, some may be cheaper some may be dearer but at 50 per metre it is a fair price

for example 40 meters @£50 per meter totals £2000.

checkatrade is always a good place to start

If the wood needs replacement, make sure it is removed and fully replaced, as some companies will simply screw plastic on top of the existing wood which can lead to issues in the future.

There is a brand called Freefoam which carries a longer guarantee (up to 50 years I believe) than other brands, it may be worth getting a quote from one of their installers to compare with normal brands that only offer a 10 year guarantee.

May be an idea to find a house in your area that has had similar work done years ago (the longer the better) so you can ask whether they had any issues following installation and whether they'd recommend the installation company.

If it's possible, pay for the work (at least partially) on a credit card (pay the balance off to avoid paying interest) so you benefit from Section 75 protection in case there are issues.

Echo Crabman. Do not go for an over clad fix. The sections are weaker and you are simply wallpapering over the cracks.

The stuff used for correct replacement is a much stronger section and is much less likelt to bend and wave.

Ensure your contractor is aware that you which to be notified of any damage to rafter or joist ends before he proceeds with fitting the new plastic. The timbers should be inspected for rot and woodworm at this stage, hence 1 of the reasons for not over cladding;);)

Where to find your trader? Avoid such sites such as "find a builder" or whatever, almost anyone gets a good review on those sites.
