CCS Review / CLAIM CREDIT SERVICES LTD / Consortium reclaim

I am not sure if this in the right thread as this post is more about the experience I just had, and for other people to reference, rather than detailed instructions.
Claim Credit Services trading as CCS Review were originally Consortium Technology Ltd. who traded as Consortium Reclaims have either begun or are continuing to cold call folks.
And I just had a lovely chat with a fellow named Gavin regarding claiming back mortgage fees that my mother has paid. Throughout the call he sounded rather genuine and as though he wanted to help, though I guess most of them do.
So Gavin, informed me that "for just £500 we can fight a legal case against your mortgage lender and that there is a 90% chance it'll be successful". So, I asked "What happens if the other 10% prevails and this goes sour?", "Money Back Guarantee" he said!
Oh really wow? This sounds too good to be true I said. (It's not what I thought)
..."Wait a minute? What about Consortium Reclaim going under, and not providing any compensation for their customers?" I respond.
Gavin tells me that "I've only worked at the company for a few months and i've never heard of such actions having taken place, and I've not done that much research into the company,..(It took me ten minutes, while I was on the phone to him)..my only concern is earning a decent wage and feeding my son." "Fair enough" I told him, "I make no judgement about you personally, but the company your working for on the other hand...I'll leave that to you. But please, do tell me more."
So okay, Gavin has never heard of these actions having taken place, fair enough. So far sounds good, eh! Reclaim fees and pay less on the mortgage, what a bargain!
Ok, so I say "I presume you'll need to send us some paper work for us to read, sign and send back, right?"
"Oh no", Gavin says, "we don't do that. We send out paperwork once we have received an upfront fee..."
What the frick? Really? At this point I had to stop being polite (I wasn't rude) and be blunt. "Sorry Gavin this sounds a little dodgy, you want payment of £500 without any signed agreement or potentially anything to follow this up with?", "Yes that's right."
I digress as you can imagine what came next...
"Please accept my apologies Gavin, but I'm afraid I can't take this call any further, the terms you've put forward are ridiculous, thank you for your call and have a good day."
I just wanted to share this experience mainly so that if anyone else gets a call from them, they will know what to expect!
Gavin was either a kind chap or I'm getting better at not sounding annoyed when talking to these folks.
Thank you Tuttsi, and legal beagles for the link above.

When someone calls you, you don't need to confirm a damn thing. The person who called you however, could be anyone.

If they said that then its a breach of MoJ rules in a couple of places.
1 - If court action is likely then you are not allowed to cold call and solicitors cannot accept referrals from that cold call.
2 - claims companies are not allowed to give chances of success or exaggerate the odds.
3 - taking a fee before the contract issued
What you describe sounds like advance fee fraud. Give a reasonably plausible reason that suggests a payoff of some sort and then hit with a smaller advance fee.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I have had an extremely similar experience, with Consortium Reclaim commencing September 2011 in respect of PPI refunds .
I paid them £1314, having no idea I should have been charged nothing and was later asked for more to undertake legal proceedings . I have only today discovered they went into administration and quite obviously I will never be able to claim a refund of my payment to them.
They were utterly useless:
· they promised at least fortnightly updates which were not forthcoming
· The one phone call I did receive accused me of making adverse comments about the company on Twitter and Facebook, and I was told the MD could take me to court, but had decided not to do so, about which I was furious. I assumed it was an update call initially and it became obvious the caller had phoned the wrong person ( My surname is common in Wales !).I made several complaints via email . Apparently I was “ reported by a member of staff “. Did they feel it necessary to seek out and stalk clients on the net?
· I received details in April 2012 about a further payment required for a court case in order for my claim against M and S to go ahead.
· I called and emailed to no avail asking for information and remonstrating about their lack of communication.
· I asked for details to claim a refund of my initial payment and was called on my mobile at a time I specifically stated no calls ( I was in a classroom lecturing and missed the call)
· I tried persistently to call them as requested in a voicemail, to hear how to reclaim my payment and got nowhere and so left it .
In the intervening time, I have come to realise that NO payment is required for PPI claims .
Today, I finally looked up their website and was shocked to see they had collapsed and now I feel completely naïve and stupid and I am neither !
I am not gullible and an easy touch but they sounded totally bona fide
and reputable and I found nothing adverse .
I was very wrong .0 -
I was contacted in August 2012 by a man named Gavin and was told they would look into our mortgage to make sure it was all sold correctly but they would need a fee of £823 which I would get back whether the claim was successful or not. I stupidly agreed because I thought "what have I got to lose"? I will get my initial fee back and the chance of a claim being made on my mortgage.
There has been such a lack of communication and I have constantly been told it is all being dealt with and I would hear as soon as there was something to report.
A few days ago I received a letter from Credit CLEAR Services who explained that they had taken on my case as Credit Claim Services had gone into administration but obviously failed to tell any of their customers. They are now instructing new solicitors but I will keep chasing them and hope this company is legit.
I am now in the process of claiming back my initial fee from Lloyds as luckily I put it on my mastercard, so after sending them all the evidence I have, I will hopefully be able to claim my money back.
I will never again send money up front and now feel, despite the bit of correspondence I had from them, that they were a scam from start to finish.0 -

This is complete BS.
solicitors are not allowed to take business from cold calling companies. There is no issue with mortgages and the complaint reasons were bogus to try and get money off you.I will never again send money up front and now feel, despite the bit of correspondence I had from them, that they were a scam from start to finish.
You need to go further than that. Never ever act on cold calls. We all get them and most of the ones I receive seem to be scams at worst or mis-sales at best. If you dont act on a cold call, you will not be scammed.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Absolutely a scam.
Hopefully uou paid by credit rather than debit card.0 -
I too fell prey to this company, paid my money up front and waited. Was notified CCS now bankrupt and detail passed to Credit Clear Services who required further payment to 'complete the work'. At this point I applied to my credit card issuer who were very helpful, raised a dispute with the company and credited my account with the amount I had paid out, Great result - you might think, however the company is now disputing the claim saying they completed their actions as per the terms and conditions. Have read the T&C but I'm not a lawyer just confused. My advice is 1)hang up or failing that cancel within 14 days!!!0
