Doggy castration.

Having seen the movember post, and while we're on the subject of doggy nads being removed....
I have to take gitdog to be done - (I'm not actually that convinced it's necessary, but it's one of the terms of the adoption so needs must.) Given that he is a sh1te especially if he's bored and I need to plan so that mum's not lumbered with looking after him if he starts messing around, how long is the normal recovery time for a healthy dog?

I did ask the nurse over the phone, but I can only remember a mention of lead walking for a few days and I'm more concerned about how long he might be interested in the stitches etc for.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Stiches are normally in for 7-10 days as far as I know, the vet will be able to tell you better.

It took Truffle about 5 minutes into our car journey home to recover  And the vet said I was in for a nice quiet evening.

Basically having had major trauma with previous mutt and her horrendous reaction to various operations, I'm just wondering how long we might be in buster collar territory for.
I know it's probably different for each dog, but if I need to take time off work to spare mother the trauma (he's hard work even on a good day) I wanted a guesstimate of how long it might be from those who've gone through it. I'm sure he'll be fine, it's my mum I'm more concerned about - she'd be wary of intervening if he was chewing bits he shouldn't be chewing.

They might not put the collar on, they didn't when my girl was Spayed or when any of my cats have been done, if they do maybe they can use a comfy collar (like a blow up rubber ring) which is much nicer for them (mine has used it in the past & rested her head on it)

I imagine he will be fully charged again by the time you are home! You could also put a tight t shirt on him to cover them maybe while your Mum has him, maybe a kids one/thundershirt/equafleece?
  • my dog (8month old) was a bit groggy on the day of the op
however by the next day he was as right as rain.
he didnt need to have any stitches taken out as far as i was aware.
    p.s
they gave him one of those special doggy coller but we never used it.
