had the report from the surveyor, flagged up several issues we had not previously seen and were therefore not reflected in the original offer which the vendors had accepted.
Report highlights loads of work required and recommends a reduction of £5,000.00 in the purchase price/value to remedy the defects, surveyor adds that the work will not increase the value of the property, only bring it in line with our original offer.
We have made a revised offer based on the report, but the vendor is saying the surveyor is being picky, that they can't afford to accept the revised offer, but they will do some of the work !
Puzzled by this, if they can't afford to accept the revised offer, how can they afford to do the work ?
Unless we get the surveyor to check their work, how can we be sure it has actually been done and to the correct standard ? i suspect they are going to do it themselves, which would offer no guarantees on the work.
Advice needed, ta

What kind of work and how specialised is it likely to be? Maybe they know people in the trade and think they can get it done for less than the £5000 reduction you're offering.0

investigating footings and cracks on a porch that have been compromised by nearby lelandii, either repairing or rebuilding porch, also the door and surround and the flat roof on this needs immediate replacement whatever the investigation turns up. Drain full of soil and roots from same leylandii.
