Installing a electric cooker /hob

Hi

We are installing a standard electric built in cooker and induction hob, seems simple...problem is

When we got our shower installed , the installer ran the main shower cable to the fuse box useing the cooker switch(at that time we did not have a electric hob so all was ok.

But now we want the electric hob again, can we just run both shower and hob from this fuse

If any more q's are needed please ask
thanks

Most probably not, you really need to get a sparky in to have a look ;)

I wouldn't call the guy who ran it via a cooker switch either

I would say most definitely not.
I think cooker circuits may be rated at 45 amp and if my maths is correct at mains voltage of 240v the max wattage is 10.8 kw.
Now that should be OK for most cookers, and the shower as long as it is one of the lower power ones as some of them can be rated at 12kw. But not both together.
So if you cooked your breakfast whilst having a shower something would turn cold.

Edit: If your cooker circuit is a 32amp one then the load would need to be considerably less than 10kw.

But the sparky should never have connected the shower to the cooker point anyway, even though it would work.

Noooo! You need a separate fuse for your electric cooker and for your shower. It's not a huge job to do this but get a sparky in to do it, getting it wrong could be the last thing you ever do.

Seeing as the OP has not responded since maybe he/she didn't take our advice and is currently busy growing worms?
  • Kwmlondon....love it.

No not ashes yet, I'm sure there is a long line hoping for it to be soon.

Thanks for advice, getting a little sparky in as don't want to make too many people happy atm
